   Regarding your ‘Gender and the Bible’ article, while there is much I could say about it, I will mention just one issue. You mention several times that gender roles are given in the bible, but this is not so. Nowhere does the bible discuss female “roles”, and none can even be implied beyond the obvious reproductive ones. You go so far as to say that God ordained gender roles, and which was particularly difficult to read, that “Jesus upheld traditional gender roles”. This really is insupportable and wrong. It appears you have your own views on science, the bible, gender and feminism, but it is surely an affront to God to put your words, based on your views, into His mouth. You cannot in all honesty do that, as He did not say these things or indicate them by His example. I happen to take exception to virtually all your views on these subjects, and in particular where you tell women what it is to be female ! But to write that your views come from God’s own mouth is beyond the pale unacceptable. I wish you well, but you need less subjectivity in your writing as well as honest attributions.

     Jemma,

     What is an affront to God is to deny what He has written in the Bible where gender roles are clearly taught in both the Old and New Testaments.  The entire Bible is a pictured of marriage where Jehovah is the husband and Israel in the wife in the OT, and Christ is the husband and the church is the wife in the NT. This is not to say that one sex is more valuable than the other or that women can’t lead, but the Bible emphatically states that men are to be the main leaders and providers and women are to be the main helpers and family caretakers.

     Here some of the passages which you have ignored or perhaps are not familiar with:

     To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face, you shall eat bread. Genesis 3:17-19

     To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” Genesis 3:16

     Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Ephesians 5:22-24

     Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18

     Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be merely external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. 1 Peter 3:1-6

     Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.  Titus 2:3-5

     Therefore, I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, and manage the house. 1 Timothy 5:14

     You also clearly need an education in neuroscience, because our brains are wired to be either male or female, and the stereotypical differences between the sexes are because of that wiring. Just like gravity, it is a reality that we need to deal with rather than denying and subverting it.

     We are not suffering from too much patriarchy, rather we are suffering from the lack of it – what we need is to find ways to encourage marriage. Feminism and the social justice movements are the main cause of social problems and the decline in American society:

     Divorce and split-ups
     Dissatisfaction with the opposite sex
     Out of wedlock pregnancies
     Gender dysphoria
     Depression and suicide
     Fatherlessness and the many associated pathologies:  poverty, poor educational outcome, 
     Etc.

     I understand that you reject everything I wrote because you have sadly been polluted by the feminist movement which has promulgated many lies about science and the Bible. Feminism is a pathology, so I likewise reject and take exception to your entire position.  I suggest that you start to educate yourself.
